Do you want to build a snowman?
Sorry- I couldn't resist. We are having our first snowfall of the season today, and it's perfect snowman making snow. It likely won't stay around long, but this little cutie will last the whole season! The kids and I headed to the craft space today and made this guy. I think there will be more in our future- you can make them any size at all,
Supplies:
Basic Black cardstock (8.5x11)
White cardstock (12x12)
Tangerine Tango cardstock (retired)
Real Red cardstock
To make your life easier, and production of this guy faster, score an entire piece of 12x12 at once- sore at the 1 inch mark. You'll need three pieces. Once scored, cut at 6 inches. Fan fold the pieces and adhere them together.
Punch a 2 inch circle from white cardstock.
This next bit takes a little coordination and perhaps an extra pair of hands. With a glue gun, run a bead of glue along the inside part of the circle (where the punched circle will sit, as with the image at righ). Push the paper together so that the circle closes, and the hole in the middle is small. Run another bead of glue around the side and stick the punched circle on top. Hold for a few seconds until cooled and set.
Turn over the snowman, and fill the hole with more glue (I did this to make sure it would be sturdy, and to give it a little bit of weight, too.
Cut a triangular piece of orange cardstock and stick it over the centre hole. I ran a bead of glue around the circle as well for more strength and hold.
For his eyes, punch two 1.5 inch black circles and for the mouth, five 1.25 inch circles (or whatever works for your snowman). Place where you like, and adhere with double sided tape.
To make his hat, cut a piece of black cardstock at 5 inches by 6 inches (or whatever works for you) and cut a piece of black at 2 inches by 8.5. Line up the 2 inch piece with the base of the 6 inch piece, with the brim piece on top. Place a 1 by 6 inch piece of red cardstock on to meet up with the brim piece. If you'd like, punch a bit of greenery to go on the brim. Tape the red band and greenery to the hat.
Once his face is assembled, find the middle point. Count three peaks to the left, and punch the INSIDE of the peak. Count three peaks to the right, and punch the INSIDE again. That will ensure that the snowman will hang evenly. Thread some ribbon through the holes, and tie off (not too tightly, or the paper can tear.
If you want to hide the punch, so that when the sun hits it, there isn't a shadow, cut a small piece of white cardstock and stick it to the back.
I realize I'm a day behind in posting day 10 of the 12 days of Christmas. Yesterday was my last craft sale of the season, and when we got home, everything seemed to need attention all at once, and before I knew it, it was really late.
There will be another post up later today to catch up.
